May 28th 2015 Day 5

7D- Students continued working on their Jigsaws. Presentations start next Tuesday June 2nd

8A- Today we finished up the Chapter 5 worksheets. WE will review them on Monday and the Quiz will be on Tuesday.

9F- Today we presented our marketing projects. Marks are already on Power school and the brake down has been emailed to each student.  WE are having one more review period on Tuesday  and the Chapter 7 Test is Wednesday June 3rd 2015.

8F- Today we continued with chapter 5. We looked at how Japan responded to the Crisis of their Shogunate being abolished.  These pages are for homework up to the last two pages for Monday.

8E- Today we looked at how Japan responds to crisis. Students were asked to complete up to and including page 10 for Tuesday.

7D- Last period in class to work on Jigsaws. I sat with each group today to see where everyone was.. Things are looking great!! Keep up the good work!

7F- Students continued working on their Jigsaws. They have only Monday left in class to work on it. I sat with each group today to see where everyone was...projects are looking great! I am looking forward to the presentations starting next week.

May 27th 2015 Day 4

9F- Today we had the Term 3 assembly during our social block. Students will be presenting their projects tomorrow morning.

7F- Jigsaw! Students have 4 more periods until the Jigsaw presentations start on June 2 2015.

8E-This block we continued discussing the influences that finally opened up Japans doors. We talked about China's and USA's influence. Students were given a worksheet to be completed for homework for tomorrow. Many finished in class.  Tomorrow we will be discussing Commodore Matthew Perry in more detail.

7D (double) -Jigsaw! Students have 4 more periods until the Jigsaw presentations start on June 2 2015.


8E-Today we discussed Commodore Perry and his part in opening Japans doors to the western trade demands. We finished this around 2:55 and as this class has been working incredibly the last few weeks. I treated them to an episode of my favorite You-tube Show Good Mythical Morning (completely family friendly).

8A- Today we discussed how the trading agreements with US and other countries started a crisis in Japan. Students were asked to complete pages 8 and 9 in their workbook for homework. I will be double checking this tomorrow.

8F-Today we went over our worksheets from yesterday.

May 26th 2015 Day 3

9F(double)- Because of the District Track meet today we were missing 2 people from every group but 1. Because of this our presentations have been moved to Thursday, and today we started review for the chapter 7 test. Chapter 7 test has also been moved to Wednesday June 3rd as we lose another review class this week due to the Term 3 Assembly. If you were away at districts today.. please make sure you come see me for the review package.  There are also extra review on Google Classroom. 

7F- Once again students worked amazingly hard on the jigsaw project. I am looking forward to starting the presentations next week!

May 25th 2015 Day 2

8F- Students were given 15 minutes to review before they wrote the Chapter 4 Quiz. They then proceeded to finish the quiz. Marks will be up in a few days.

8A- This first block we discussed the influence that Russia and the European countries had on Japan, which lead to them wanting to keep their policies of isolation.

7F- Students continue to impress me with their work ethic on the Jigsaw project. Keep it up! Presentations start on June 2 2015 (Chapter 9).

7D- Last Wednesday we started our last 4 chapters for the year. We are doing these chapters in a jigsaw. Students teaching students. Today they started the group work for this project. They students all jumped right in working hard and have already started producing the assignments.

8E-Students were given 15 minutes to review before they wrote the Chapter 4 Quiz. They then proceeded to finish the quiz. Marks will be up in a few days.

9F- Students had their last class to work on the projects. They are presenting to myself, Mr. Flanagan and Mr. Goudreau tomorrow during class. Those that are at districts will be presenting on Wednesday at lunch.

8F- Reviewed the right answers for worksheet. Extra Keys have been placed on Google Classroom. There is a Quiz on Monday May 25th 2015

8A- Today the class was given 15 minutes to study for the Chapter 4 Quiz. They then proceeded to write the Quiz. Marks are already up!

7F(double) - On Wednesday we started our last 4 chapters for the year. We are doing these chapters in a jigsaw. Students teaching students. Today they started the group work for this project, they received the 2 block today to get started.  They students all jumped right in working hard and have already started producing the assignments :D Well done 7F keep it up!

May 19th 2015 Day 4

9F- Students continued to work on their project. They only have 4 more days in class to work on it. If they are not using their time efficiently they will be losing the rest of their work periods. The project is due on May 26th 2015.

7F- The chapter 8 test was today. Tomorrow we start our Jigsaw!!! Remember Ukrainian Village forms are due Tomorrow!!!

8E- Today students worked on a word search vocabulary review.  Chapter 4 Quiz Monday May 25th 2015

7D(double)- First block was studying for the Chapter 8.  Second block...The chapter 8 test was today. Tomorrow we start our Jigsaw!!! Remember Ukrainian Village forms are due Tomorrow!!!

8E- The Second block was dedicated to partner study with the review package for the Chapter 4 quiz.

May 11th 2015 Day 6

7F- Students handed in their old Monde en Marche, then worked on their Louis Riel project that is due on Wednesday May 13th 2015 
- They will receive a new Monde en Marche tomorrow

8A- Students handed in the Weekly news and received a new weekly news due May 21st 2015.

9F- PAT -ELA - Well done Grade 9s only one more this week!!! Wednesday at 9am Come to school at the normal time, and you are expected to stay at school for the afternoon.

8E- Students started working on the chapter 4 assignment on Google Classroom. It is due on Wednesday May 13th 2015.

Monday 4 May 2015

May 4th 2015 Day 1


8F- Today the 8F students spent the day at the Japanes Community Center in Edmonton. They learnt how to count in Japanese and how to write their names. We then headed over to the Japanes Village restaurant for a wonderful lunch. Students made it back to class for block 8.  Thanks you again to my volunteers and to my students for behaving wonderfully. 

8A- Today while I was with the 8F on the Japanese Field trip, the 8As started searching through chpater 4 for information on Japan and its worldview. Students will be contiunuing this worksheet tomorrow while I am unfortunately gone again with the 8Es on the Field trip. Looking forward to takeing thr 8As on Tuesday the 12th.


7F- Students were asked to finish the worksheets from last week. During the second block they were given a simple poster project that is to be completed individually.  As I am not here again tomorrow, I ask that the students email me with any questions and I will be sure to answer them.  I will revisite the project directions on Wednesday. The due date for this project is tentatively set for Monday May 11th 2015.
